Why is Hamilton on Disney+
COVID-19 delayed plans for an in theatre release of the film. Disney+ was looking to acquire new content. The pandemic wasn’t ending, so the creators of Hamilton allowed for the film to be released via Disney+.
3 Things to Note about the “Hamilfilm”
- The production is from 2016 and stars all the original cast members. This includes Lin Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr, and Daveed Diggs to name a few.
- The show is rated PG-13 with two/three instances of the f-word bleeped out.
- Hamilton will be on Disney+ for the rest of time which is plenty of time to learn every word.
An article from the LA Times explains the genius of this filmed production,
“Watch “Hamilton” for the first time the way you would watch any other movie for the first time: to get a grip on the plot, to revel in the spectacle and to experience the emotion. Since it’s streaming, you can hit the pause button whenever you need an extra minute to digest what you’ve seen or get clarification on what’s even going on. The movie’s intermission is a mere minute long, but feel free to stretch it to the live show’s usual 15, if needed.”
If that isn’t enough compelling enough look at these tweets from fans across the globe:
that's it. my purpose in life. i have seen leslie sing wait for it in hd and i can die happily now. #hamilton

So much of theatre is inaccessible to most people for a variety of reasons. As a kid I loved listening to cast albums, but it’s not the same as seeing the show. I’m genuinely excited for people who get to experience the magic of seeing #Hamilton for the first time. #HamiltonFilm
