In an announcement made on runDisney.com, it was revealed that the upcoming marathon weekend, usually coinciding with the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, is taking place in a virtual setting for the first time since it premiered in 2010. Limited registrations for this event will become available on July 30th.
How Will The Half Marathon Work?
Runners will participate in the event on their own time on the day of the event. They will track their own time, and completion of their selected race will be based on the honor system. The events are as follows:
- 5k Event ~ Friday, November 6th ($79)
- 10k Event ~ Saturday, November 7th ($99)
- Half Marathon Event ~ Sunday, November 8th ($118)
- Two Course Challenge Event ~ Saturday, November 7th to Sunday, November 8th ($252)
Runners will receive their commemorative medals through the mail at the physical address added upon registration.
Wine and Dine Merchandise??
Although no definitive designs for medals have been released, the designs for each respective race have been revealed.
As many Disney Parks fans know, limited edition merchandise is a hot commodity. Therefore, the decision from the merchandise team to incorporate both classic and cult classic villains is very smart.
The Evil Queen is featured in the Half Marathon, delivering her sinister glare to anyone who dares to judge her. Her domineering presence motivates runners to reach their goal at record speed!
While not as evil, this duo is still extremely popular. Yzma and Kronk are representing the 5k, and they have been waiting to cause some mayhem. For millennial Disney fans, their appearance is a pleasant surprise!
The Future of runDisney
This pandemic has shifted the entire Disney oeuvre as we know it. From changing eating and walking policies, to delaying movie releases, everything has changed. What does the future have in store for these beloved marathons?
Firstly, runDisney has been promoting virtual events for some time now. Also, anyone can run anywhere! These events are able to thrive from a remote standpoint. Therefore, I think runDisney will be just fine!
Despite everything going on in the world, this event is going full steam ahead! Limited registration for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon opens at 10:00 a.m. on July 30th. Will you be participating?
